Pack your imaginary backpack — we're going camping. The catch? The whole forest floor is lava.

Pack your imaginary backpack

Floor Is Lava: Camp Adventure sends kids into the great outdoors — except the entire forest floor has turned to lava. Over about four minutes, kids leap from log to log, balance across rocks, hop between safe campsites, and keep their feet off the molten ground while Mr. J guides the trip. It blends the classic Floor Is Lava game with a camping story, so the movement always has a purpose.

Because the rules are already familiar, kids dive in the second the video starts — no lengthy explanation needed. The camping theme just adds a fresh coat of fun to a game they already love.

How kids play it

Kids carve out a small clear space, watch the cues, and react. When the screen says jump to the next log, they jump. When it's time to balance across a fallen tree, they hold steady and count it out. There's no equipment and no setup — the video runs the game and the kids bring the energy.

Since everyone stays on their own "campsite," it works in tight spaces where kids can't move around the room.

Why balance and jump cues are good for kids

This brain break leans heavily on jumping and balancing, which are foundational movement skills. Research associates active play with developing coordination, balance, and motor control in young children, and the listen-then-move structure quietly builds following-directions skills too.

Many teachers find that giving kids a clear target — stay off the lava — keeps the movement focused instead of chaotic, and the camp story gives the break a satisfying beginning, middle, and end that helps the room settle when it's over.
