If your kid can copy a dance, they can do this workout. That's the whole point.
What this dance workout is
Move Like Me! is a copy-the-leader dance workout with a simple promise: if a kid can mirror a move, they can do this whole routine. Mr. J demonstrates a string of easy-to-follow moves — marches, reaches, twists, kicks, and dance steps — and kids do exactly what he does. There's no choreography to memorize and no right or wrong; the only job is to watch and move along.
How kids do it
Kids stand where they can see the screen, give themselves a little elbow room, and copy each move as it comes. Because the format is pure imitation, even the youngest or most hesitant kids can join in without feeling put on the spot. The routine blends higher-energy moves with calmer ones, so it naturally rises and settles instead of running flat-out the whole time. There's no counting to keep up with and no sequence to remember — if a kid misses a move, the next one is already on screen, so nobody falls behind or feels singled out.
Why copy-the-leader movement works
Imitation is one of the first ways young children learn, and mirroring a leader's movements asks the brain to watch, process, and reproduce in real time — quietly building coordination and body awareness. Research generally associates regular dance and movement with better balance, rhythm, and cardiovascular health in kids, and the no-memorization format keeps the focus on participating rather than performing. Teachers often find this lowers anxiety for kids who shy away from structured dance. Let kids scale moves up or down as needed. *(General educational guidance, not medical advice.)*
Where it fits
- Preschool and early elementary — a no-prep movement block anyone can lead by pressing play
- Parents at home — an active screen-time option that doesn't need a backyard
- Inclusive movement settings — easy to modify for a wide range of abilities
- Indoor recess — keeps a group moving in a small space
Suggested ages
Designed for ages 2–8. Toddlers can do their own loose version of each move, while older kids can match the pace and exaggerate the moves for a bigger workout.
